Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our strong partnership will support us in working together to ensure that your children continue to receive quality instruction. We are P.S. 108K strong!
In this time of uncertainty, constant change and feeling overwhelmed, as we learn about new guidelines, regulations and new statistics regarding our fight against the coronavirus, please find some sense of reassurance and peace knowing that the P.S. 108K School Family is and will remain at your side supporting you and your children. Please take comfort in knowing that we are here for you as we venture into Remote Learning. Remote Learning is new for all of us.
“We discover our greatness when we find ourselves in a situation bigger than we and we manage to grow and become bigger than the situation”.

Remote Learning Platform
P.S. 108K is utilizing Google Classroom. Google Classroom is a free web service, developed by Google for schools, that aims to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students. I have included directions in English and Spanish to assist you in signing in to your Google Classroom Account.
Lessons/Assignments
You will be receiving a calendar with the assignments and learning activities for all curriculum areas from your children’s teachers via Google Classroom. It is essential that your children’s education continues remotely. The teachers may send you a schedule with suggested times to complete activities on a daily basis based on your children’s regular school schedule or the calendar on Google Classroom that shows the assignments. We understand that working from home may present circumstances that prevent your children from completing assignments at the designated times and that is fine. Create a schedule that works best for your family. Your children will get credit for the assignment if it is done in the evening because that best works for you and meets the deadlines/due dates.
Attendance
Your children’s attendance will be counted through their participation in the Remote Learning. If your children do not participate in assignments or learning activities for a particular day, they will be marked absent for that day.
Grading
Teachers will be grading your children’s work and will be monitoring their progress. The teachers will be sharing the Remote Learning Grading Policy with you so that you fully understand how your children will be graded.
Social and Emotional Support
I recognize that transitioning to Remote Learning, coupled with our fight against coronavirus, may present social and emotional concerns for you and your family. The Guidance Counselor, Social Workers, Director of Student Affairs and Parent Coordinator will continue to provide social and emotional support. Our support team will be providing Respect for All and Anti-Bullying Lessons via Google Classroom. You can request support via DoJo directly to them or through the classroom teachers.
Student and Family Responsibilities
·Students should complete instructional activities assigned by teachers within the expected timelines.
·Students should participate in check-ins, discussions, and other communication mechanisms as expected by the teacher.
·Students should review teacher feedback and complete any follow-up activities as assigned by the teacher.
·Students and families should proactively notify their teacher or a school administrators with any concerns about progress or additional support needed.
·Families should support students in being successful by establishing routines and habits that support their success in remote learning.
·Families should ensure that students are adhering to their school’s contract for appropriate behavior on web enabled devices.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your children’s teacher via DoJo or the Mr. Amadeo, Parent Coordinator via email Ramadeo@schools.nyc.gov
